October 1999
I began my school career at Les Aubiers in Comines, where I did all my primary education from 2006 to 2012. I went on to complete my secondary education at L'Athénée Royal Fernand Jacquemin in Comines from 2012 to 2015. In September 2015, I was a student at Institut le Tremplin in Mouscron, graduating in June 2021 as a waiter. Ever since I was young, I've been passionate about politics and debating ideas.
I said to myself that I wanted to be in a local political party, so I started watching the political programme: Jeudi en Prime (RTBF)At the time I watched ''In your opinion!'' Wednesday evenings on RTBF and since 2021, QR l'actu on Mondays and Tuesdays after the news at 7.30pm and QR Le débat in the second half of the evening (9.50pm), and I also watch C'est Pas tous les Jours Dimanches on (RTL), now since January 2024 it's Rendez-Vous from 12.15pm on RTL tvi on Sundays. I also listen to the political interviews at 7.50am on La Première or sois Bel RTL, and watched the Comines-Warneton mid-term debate on Notélé.
January
I got in touch with someone I knew very well (Chantal BERTOUILLE), and I told her that I wanted to get into politics and that I wanted to join the ENSEMBLE party in Comines.
I also explained my ideas for making Comines-Warneton even more beautiful and attractive than it is today. I still remember, I was at her home for a 40-45 minute interview with my ideas for Comines-Warneton. She said OK, I'll be in touch very soon...
1 week after our meeting she phoned me to ask if I was available on a certain date for a first meeting...
But here I'm talking about Chantal Bertouille (a former member of the Walloon parliament for nearly 20 years, a former alderman in Comines-Warneton... But I also told Didier SOETE about my project and I wanted to get into politics.
So in mid-January 2018, I had my first group meeting, I already know three-four people and then I met the other people.
mid-May
After attending a few meetings, I was asked if I wanted to join the Ensemble list for the 2018 local elections. I didn't dare answer directly. But two days after I was asked, I immediately phoned Chantal to give her my answer and it was a big yes.
September
A very good memory during the campaign. I decided to campaign in the field with Chantal, to learn as well.
One Friday evening we were at Saint-Henri in Comines, for an aperitif or a supper.
And I still remember that; straight into the car park! Good evening Hugo, good evening Hugo, good evening Hugo, and we continue towards the school playground and it goes on, good evening Hugo, good evening Hugo, and then Chantal she looks at me well and me !!! I started laughing 😊 and that, at least, is a very good memory from election time.
October 2018
I was in the Nord-Eclair newspaper: the headline I still remember 😊 was: ''Hugo Clauw: Fan d'émissions politiques: Son rêve devenir Conseiller Communal''.
October 2018
D-Day of the Communal Elections, I witnessed votes that day. I still remember it 😊! That evening shortly before midnight I was told I had 233 votes, which was a first for me.
January
I started to expand my social networks: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook page.
March
I wrote my letter of application to join the Board of Directors of the Carpe Diem Youth Centre. I was appointed by the Communal Council, for a term of 6 years: 2019-2025.

I took part in the Young MR Presidential Elections debate in Bioul (Namur Province). I met a lot of people to see the photos on social networks.
October 2021
I also attended the 175th anniversary party of the Liberal Party: (MR - Open VLD - ALDE Party ''European Liberal''). I met a lot of people that day. Georges-Louis Bouchez, Sophie Wilmès, Charles Michel, ...".
June
Following my letter of application and the Board's votes, I became Vice-Chairman of MJ Carpe Diem.
